Meet Dr. Ashok J. Prasad
Dr. Ashok J. Prasad is a highly respected and accomplished cardiologist whose commitment to advancing cardiovascular care has had a profound impact on the Fredericksburg region and beyond. He currently serves as the Chief of Cardiology for the Mary Washington Health System, after previously holding the same role at Stafford Hospital.
In 2014, Dr. Prasad founded Oracle Heart & Vascular with Dr. Czajka and Dr. Abdula, driven by a vision to build a truly patient-centered cardiovascular practice grounded in clinical excellence, compassion and innovation. Under his leadership, Oracle Heart & Vascular has grown into one of the region’s most comprehensive cardiovascular practices, which includes a complete range of diagnostic testing and screenings.
Dr. Prasad received his Doctor of Medicine from University of Debrecen Health Science Center. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine Residency, Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship and Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship all at New York Methodist Hospital, now NewYork-Presbyterian in Brooklyn.
Dr. Prasad was instrumental in opening the Oracle Procedural Suite, the region’s first office-based procedure suite located on the first floor of the Fredericksburg office. There, he performs advanced, minimally invasive procedures such as Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) interventions and Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE). These treatments allow patients to receive specialized vascular care in a comfortable, outpatient setting.
Dr. Prasad is the only physician in the region performing CardioMEMS implants—a state-of-the-art, implantable monitoring device for heart failure patients that enables early detection of worsening symptoms and significantly reduces hospitalizations. As an interventional cardiologist at the hospital level, Dr. Prasad performs a wide range of procedures, including cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography, complex percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), peripheral vascular interventions, intravascular imaging (IVUS, OCT), right heart catheterizations and hemodynamic assessments, complex and high-risk coronary intervention and CardioMEMS implants.
In addition to expanding services throughout Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas, he has also led Oracle Heart & Vascular’s growth into the King George area, enhancing access to expert cardiovascular care across the region.
He is a steadfast patient advocate, and is guided by compassion, integrity, wisdom and humility. He prioritizes education, lasting relationships and delivering innovative, evidence-based care with a personalized approach.
Dr. Prasad lives in Fredericksburg with his wife and their four children. In his free time, he enjoys literature, reading and writing—interests that reflect his thoughtful and reflective nature both personally and professionally.
